Hi,

Has anyone been accepted to Nassau Community College's nursing program with a 3.75 (or maybe less)? I plan on applying in October for January's class. I always hear "4.0" as the number that gets in. I know it depends on the application pool each time, but I'd like to hear from "real" people out there. Many thanks.

theres someone in my second semester class with a 3.3

and from the things ive seen, i rather have a nurse with a B average in school at my bedside versus an "A" nurse

Hi, I will also apply this fall for the spring 2010 nursing program and my gpa just took a hit and is now a 3.7 so im concern as well about getting accepted into the program with such low gpa.

If it helps, keep in mind that at Nassau they only count the classes that are part of the curriculum when you apply, and if you have more than one class that fits a non-specific category they pick the one that fits with the highest grade (for the math I had four classes and they picked one of them I had an A in).

My overall GPA is maybe a 3.2 due to some low and failing classes from a few years ago but since I had all As and B+s in the required classes I got in (on the 'second round' a month after being rejected when seats opened up from others deciding to not go there).

Thanks , that really helps I retook a class and got an A on it so if they use that and they out the low grade I have almost perfect gpa.

They only look at the higher grade if you re-take a class so far as I know. I took child development twice, since I got a C the first time due to personal problems a few years ago and they put me down as having an A for that class since that was my grade the second time. Only thing to look out for is A&P I, you can only take it over twice I believe and after that it doesn't matter your grade they won't consider you for the program.

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE GOING THATS LPN TO RN?

AND HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO GET ALL YOUR PRE REQS??

Thanks im taking A&p now and so far im doing very well.I actually havent met anyone thats an LPN going for their RN at nassua, But I have heard that they do have priority to get into the program.

Really?? So do you think it would be a better choice to go for lpn and then rn or go straight??

I would advice you spoke with someone from the school first because I think that they dont accept transfers from all lpn schools thats what I have been told and also once your an LPN they want you to have X amount of time and experience working as an LPN before you can apply into the program so in the end it takes you longer.

If you attend one open house session made specially for LPN to RN students they will answer all your concerns there

I dont know what you learn in LPN school, but you get to bypass the first (probably the foundation for the program) semester of the program

I dont know whats on the test, but you need to take it in order to challenge 101 and go directly into 105 (second semester)

So if youre undecided on what route to go - GO TO AN OPEN HOUSE

Hindsight, I think I wouldve done the LPN first, then gone for RN mainly because I would gain the bedside experience and I would be working ..period. Butttttttttt I have no regrets, it truely is a lovely program. I love it I love it I love it.
