is this over kill?????

he is in Contact Isolation, Droplet Isolation and Airborn Isolation in Negative pressure room (used for TB)

we are told to wear gown, gloves (of course), respirator (which is a heavy duty mask) and one of the cheaper orange mask over that (so 2 masks and you can't breath with one on).

The pt is a truck driver and has been to Toronto when the outbreak of SARS was going on and he has been sick for almost 2 months with 2 rounds of Levaquin, 1 round of Cipro and just finished up a z-pack.

Better to be safe than sorry.

You made me curious. Don't you have strict isolation, which would cover everything else?

Your patient sounds like he meets the probable case description for SARS.

I have no idea what type of isolation that he is supposed to be in, but our ID nurse has put in in the 3 listed above. We normally only have patients in one class of isolation, not 3.

Ah, reed...be careful how much info you give about your location. There was one case where someone got in trouble for info posted here. Nowdays the privacy laws are even more sever than ever.
