what is wrong with the old pyxis that we have you put in your long in name/number then your pass word we have to change our password every month and that gets confusing I just change it back and forth from the same 2 rachel
  3. I would not recommend it as a career either I do love what I do, but most people don't want to work, they think that they are too good to put someone on a bedpan or help turn someone over or help pull someone up in the bed or feed a little old person after they get their license as RN or LPN, they want to sit behind the desk and chart or look at the computer and give orders for others to do their work. 4. I like the above idea with the lunch bag
  5. I did charge for 8 yrs on a busy 49 bed med-surg unit on the 3-11 shift. I took a full load of 8-12 pts, some days no CNA or Secretary. you never had time to round with doctors, if by chance you were in a room when a dr came in, then you heard the plans I had to check crash cart every day, make sure enough staff for next shift, do iv pushes for LPN's, do hard IV sticks and labs for other nurses on the unit and be the trouble shooter for the floor. Forget the 30 mins before or after for med pass, you did it 2 times a shift and just changed the times for all the medications you gave. well, I went on vacation to Australia for a month and others had to take turns doing it. When I came back to work, the charge nurse didn't have to take patients any more. Funny that I did it for years and I leave town and no one else is able to do it.
  6. I don't know what our policy is, but we give it all the time on a med surg floor.

so far, I'm thinking it is good money. I make my base pay + over time after 40 hrs in one week +shift diff if any time after 3 pm +week end diff if any time after 7 pm on Friday night till 7 pm on Sunday night week-end and shift diff pay are 3.00$ each. so, base pay with the shift and w/e diff with over time then the extra bonus pay of 150$ for 12 hrs....... I have signed up for 10 days in the next 2 months and already did 3 of them. All my over time goes toward my travels, check them out. http://www.pbase.com/rach1966 Bali in Oct for 3 weeks, can't wait. Rachel

Are you being offered a "bonus pay" if there is a need and you work extra? Our hospital just started last month offering bigger bonus pay. They used to offer 75$ for a 12 hr shift if they needed extra help. Last month they changed it to 150$ for 2 areas (cardiac and med-surg only) but you have to sign up for at least 8 shift (12 hrs) in 60 days to get the 150$ bonus. At first I refused to sign up, but then I wrote my name on the list thinking the money will be nice. Rachel
  9. we used to be every 72 hrs but policy has been changed to q 4 days for IV fluids still q 24 hrs for TPN/PPN.
  10. most people on our unit change with each unit (because they are slack and don't have the next unit waiting to hang when the first one runs out and they just throw away the tubing and flush the INT or restart the fluids that was hanging prior to starting the blood. we can run 2 units with one tubing as long as the tubing does not hang for longer than 6 hrs.
