Hi all, just a question here, does anyone else who is in clincals this summer have instructors who are $#@%'s? I really don't understand why they have to be so mean about everything they say or do. About half of our class is wanting to quit now because of one instructor. To me that's just sad. I don't know about you guys but I tend to learn better when I'm not being yelled at.

Our rotation this summer is mostly dealing with OB-labor and delivery to be exact and we are going through the PEDS class at top speed, we have class on Mon. and Fri. and have test every one of those days on at least 2 to 3 chapters while we are doing clincials on Tues. Wed. and Thurs. Needless to say it's very hard to retain any of this information since it's so fast. Well when you get to the L&D floor(we're going in shifts since they're so many of us), the instructor expects us to know everything we had last semester in Maternal Child Care and this semester in OB/PEDS. Just too much to remember, so instead of helping she just yells and asigns extra work. It's riduculous.

Is the yelling bit prevelant in RN clincals? If so I don't think I want to go through all this again.

I had a clinical/lecture instructor like yours in my RN program. This was three years ago, but we are all still pissed off at this hateful woman.

I made it in spite of her, and you can, too. Hang in there, girl!

Trust me, I feel your pain!! I had one horrible instructor who sent several people home crying every clinical day. At the end of the quarter, many of us wrote anonymous letters to the dean about her. Unfortunately she is still teaching though.

Maybe it's something about this semester...

My OB instructor told one of my classmates she should go back to her previous profession. She lectured us repeatedly about what we should and should not be doing and learning, but then didn't help us learn anything at all. The nurses on our floor kept saying "your instructor should show you how to do ____" but our instructor was unwilling/unavailable or told us we should already know how.

Hang in there. You know it's worth it to bite the bullet, smile and do whatever youa re told with instructors like that. My first semester I went home in tears on many occasions completely convinced that I was worthless. I made it thru and I'm finishing in six weeks. I'm so glad that I didn;t listen to that hateful woman.

We had a great nurse/mean as a snake clinical instructor last quarter. From this thread, sounds like she was in six states at the same time. But this is so funny...I went to graduation for the 4th year students and each of the instructors said something nice to the graduates. When it got to this particular instructor, she said all her nicey nice stuff and then she said, "Now all of you can call me Bridget" (instead of Mrs. Lxxxx). The graduate standing in front of me said, in a normal voice, not a whisper, "Well, that is certainly different than the other B word we' ve been calling you for years." The dean was there and the program chair and all the other faculty. Nobody else said a word and finally the dean broke the silence by saying, "Let's go graduate, you guys."

Well. The mean ones have always intreged me... Usually, I take on the challenge of figuring them out. You know, find out what they want out of their students or what their real weakness are... That way I can us my critical thinking to keep me in the game.... In short, I assess them... :)
