I was wondering what is the starting salary for a new RN with a ADN in Nursing but a Masters in another healthcare field. PA is low compared to other parts of the country. I would like an idea before I negoitate.

If the job in question is an entry-level job as a staff nurse for an employer who hires a large number of people in that same position, your salary will probably be pretty much the same salary as all the other new grad RN's with very little room for negotiation. Most employers pay based on the particular job that you are going to be doing -- not on other educational credentials that may or may not be relevant to the job they are hiring you for. There may be a little "wiggle room," but probably not much.

Yea I agree with the others... It does not matter what degree you have in nursing weather a diploma, associates, or bachelors, the entry level is still the same and they all take the same NCLEX to obtain a license. I personaly have a diploma and graduated Aug 07 and passed NCLEX first time. I began my nursing career in one of the largest hospitals in the state in the ED and make the saem as those who graduated with a bachelors degree. Good luck and hope everything works out for you!

Thank you for the responses, but can anyone get a little more specific?? How much for new grad nurses in the ED with an associates in the Philly area? For example how much does Einsten pay? Jefferson?? CHOP??? PeNN etc.... The numbers that I get from monster.com for the area compared to the responses on the website vary.

They all pay roughly the same, with variations in benefits and shift differentials: about $27-28/hr. CHOP's hourly starts at a little less,around 26/hr. Many are now requiring a BSN for new hires. It's getting tougher to find entry level positions for new grads, and especially with an ADN.

Not difficult for ADN/Diploma RNs to find positions in western PA. Starting wages are much lower (around 20.00/hour), but cost of living is much lower.
