Hey, all! First time venturing into this forum. I have a question for you folks up north. I am sitting here reading through a stack of resumes and 2 different Canadian nurses have mentioned "V.O.N." experience on their applications.

Now, I have learned over the years that Gravol is the same thing as Dramamine, and "casual" can refer to the part-time nature of one's employment and not necessarily to one's mental attitude towards said employment ---but what in the heck does V.O.N. mean? I am clueless! Help?

The V.O.N, or Victorian Order of Nursing, is a home health organization. In some places they do home health nursing, private duty nursing or community health nursing (eg. adult day care). In some provinces (eg. Manitoba), they have been fully absorbed into the public health system.

I'm starting a causal job in the ER next month. I though that causal meant that I was expected to work a minimum of 12 shifts per year and that I would not have any regularly scheduled shifts. (Less hours than regular part time and more flexibility).

Now it looks like I'll just have to change my attitude.

VON stands for Victorian Order of Nurses. These Nurses offer home care etc to many patients, on a travelling basis ie, dressing changes, catheter care etc.
