Question - You ask for a raise because you have assumed management duties on your unit, acepted the responsibility and accountability for scheduling, day to day operation, coordination of care. Your manager says, I can't give you a raise, but I can give you a special arrangement - ex. If you want a day off, and you have been working hard, I won't use leave time, I will just pay you. Ethical? or Lacking personal integrity to say yes? frankie

I'm not sure I understand, but what I'm offering is a suggestion to get in writing anything that you are promised. If a higher wage is not being offered, why not test the waters and simply seek a day off and see what happens.

What's more important to you right now.... the time or the money? Maybe a new title too? The manager may truly have her hands tied & if that is the case, she may be offering what she can in the alternative. I don't know if that is the case, but I agree with Judy - get something in writing.
