Can anyone please tell me a job description for a nurse working for an allergist? I am new LVN grad who has had only 8 mths experience working in a hospital tele med surg floor. I don't particularly care for med-surg, it's not my calling and would like to work closer to home. So I have recently applied for a job at an allergist office. Before I go to the interview I would really like to know what the job would entail and If I think I'm right for this job or not. All I know is that they require excellent IV and lab draw skills as well as experience administering injections. I have done some research on the computer but haven't come up with enough info yet that would fill me in on the details. Can anyone fill me in on this? Should I even consider this job if my IV skills are fair and not excellent? I appreciate any suggestions.

When I went to the allergist, the nurse took all the vitals, initial info for the doc and such. Then the doc came in and talked then the nurse helped hiim with applying the solution and pricking the skin and then monitoring them every so often until it was time for the doc to read the results. My first trip there they did 107 different things. Some were on the back, then they did about 20 on my arms. Then of course they do patient education and medication teaching if you get put on some medication. Hope this helps!

i go to the allergist twice a week and the nurse gives me my injections. she also assisted when i originally got tested by doing vitals and assisting with the 67 freaking pricks of allergens on my back. she notes my chart on amount given, previous reactions and gradually increases the doses. hope this helps.

I've worked in an ENT/Allegist office in the past and loved it. You will definitely need to do blood draws and injections, plus many other facets of the job that you will like. The money is not great, but the job is good and way less strain on your body....I'd say "GO FOR IT" ! Good luck !

The best way to improve on IV skills is to do lots of them:) No one starts out with "excellent" skills. If this is a job you are interested in, I say go for it!
