Nurse working for Allergist
Can anyone please tell me a job description for a nurse working for an allergist? I am new LVN grad who has had only 8 mths experience working in a hospital tele med surg floor. I don't particularly care for med-surg, it's not my calling and would like to work closer to home. So I have recently applied for a job at an allergist office. Before I go to the interview I would really like to know what the job would entail and If I think I'm right for this job or not. All I know is that they require excellent IV and lab draw skills as well as experience administering injections. I have done some research on the computer but haven't come up with enough info yet that would fill me in on the details. Can anyone fill me in on this? Should I even consider this job if my IV skills are fair and not excellent? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks CRV

Urgent Advice Needed
I need some advice. I'm a new LVN grad with just 6 mths experience in telemetry/medsurg hospital floor in Texas (12 hr day shift). Last week I was assigned a total of 6 patients of which 1 was going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms, 2 were total care and another was very disoriented & out of touch. At the start of my shift the 1st pt managed to get out of 4 pt restraints and tried to leave the building approx 6 times. To make a long story short, this guy was restrained a total of 3 times by 3 nurses and each time managed to get loose. A posey vest was used on the last attempt but it failed as well. Well this pt was so disruptive (despite q 2 hr sedation meds given) that the management and nurses were all over the place trying to get this guy back in his room This pt took up all of my time and everyone was aware of it. This pt was supposed to have been transferred to PCU where he could be watched closely but wasn't d/t no beds available. The mgmt already had knowledge that this pt had been combative and troublesome. Well needless to say I had my hands full. I was overwhelmed and everyone knew it. I worked a 12 hr shift, never sat down, ate or had a drink of water. Management handled the situation poorly. They did not care about the safety of pt's, staff or me. This pt created havoc throughout the hospital. I am so upset that things were handled so badly by mgmt. They left it up to me to deal with the problem. To make matters worse the charge nurse decided to add a new admit to my already heavy load. I no longer want to work for this place. All of mgmt was aware of the situation but did nothing to help resolve it. I'm afraid that by complaining they may find it best to keep it quiet and find a way to get rid of me. I am just starting out and need them as a reference. What should I do? Who do I voice my complaints to? What is the chain of command. Is there a nursing assoc or regulating agency that can guide me thru this situation? Please need your advice. Thank you in advance. CRV

Frustrated & Worn Out
I am a new LVN grad in Dallas. I have been working for a hospital for 3 months now and I am already heading toward being burnt out. I feel ashamed to say it but it is exhausting work. I'm still learning and struggling to finish everything plus documentation by the time my shift is over. I find myself working 1 1/2 to 2 hrs after my shift ends to finish documentation. I think this is insane. This 1st floor, med-surg, telemetry unit consists of about 30 or so patients with 7-8 patients per nurse and 1 tech. I have wanted to quit many times but I hang on hoping that I will either get faster and better or that one day 6 patients will be the max per nurse. What's even more frustrating is that when you need equipment such as an IV pump/pole or BP machine, none can be found on the floor. So time is wasted running around to every room to see if one is available. In addition, only 1 glucometer is available for the entire floor as well as 1 accudose machine to pull out meds. It is all so time consuming and I feel that I am always so pressed for time that I feel I can't give good quality patient care. I am so frustrated because there is no one that speaks up for us nurses. The charge nurse is so laid back. She just says, "Just do the best you can." Please tell me that it isn't like this everywhere. Please give me some insight and advice from your expertise about this. All worn out, CRV

Help on calculating annual salary
Hi everyone. I'm really embarrassed to ask this question but I can't figure this out. I hope someone can shed some light on my confusion. I am a new LVN graduate recently hired to work full-time at a nearby hospital. During my first orientation I was told that I will be working 12 hour morning shifts (7am to 7pm) and scheduled to work the following: 3 days on 2 days off, then 2 days on 3 days off and so forth. Well, this is a bit confusing since I'm used to working an 8 to 5 Mon-Fri schedule. Does anyone have any insight as to why the schedule is this way? And how do I figure out my estimated annual salary based on all the info provided: $15 hourly, on weekend $1.50 more. Can anyone help? Thanks.
