Hi Everyone...

I haven't posted here in a while but I have a situation that I need a little advice on.

I graduated from nursing school in Dec 2005 and took and passed the boards in August of 2006 and became pregnant shortly thereafter. I decided to stay in my current field of finance because I didn't think it was a good idea to make a career change while pregnant.

I am due to have my baby in August and would like to find a p/t nursing job after my maternity leave...instead of going back to finance.

I'm going to try to re-read some of my textbooks and some of the nursing journals just to keep my knowledge from going stale.

Do you think I will have a chance of getting hired after taking the boards a year before and not working as a nurse? Any suggestions on what i can do in the meantime?

absolutely you will get hired.....you're worrying over nothing! lol! Just put down on your application that you had a baby...if they ask any question about it I would just say you didn't want to start up a new position and have to take maternity leave so early on after being hired........not a big deal don't worry! I actually think that strengthens your chances to be hired because it shows you have a good work ethic and didn't have someone train you just to go out on leave soon after..... good luck & you WILL get hired .....

If you have a license and a pulse you will be able to find a job. Try to find one you'll like, too! Good luck, and congrats on the baby!

I graduated March 06, took my boards in April 06. Piddled around the house, slept late, went overseas for a while and started looking for a job in April 07. Walked into an interview on Monday, they hired me on Thursday adn I started work the following Monday. I simply told her I'm 52, never was financially able to take off a year,,had lots of family things to take care of(Dad's death, estate, etc)but that I had kept current with nursing magazines, online sites, reviewing textbooks and I was ready, willing and able to come to work fulltime now. Step out and step into a great new beginning!

I think there is a lot of areas with a nice orientation.You could request a longer orientation if need be.Good luck and how cool you are 52!
