I heard that getting your RN in California keeps you from having to take the test in other states. Is that true too?

you don't take the test in each state..... you take NCLEX once..... then you apply for reciprocity in each state..... unrestricted means that you have not done anything wrong and that the state you are licensed in has not limited your license as a penalty

An "unrestricted license" is the license status you have until/unless you have had a problem that your state board of nursing has addressed by placing a restriction (temporary or permanent) on your license. An example would be that you can only practice under the direct supervision of another RN (i.e., no home health work where you are seeing pts on your own), or you cannot handle or administer narcotics.

Well, from my understanding, all states allow you to pay a fee for a license in whichever state you want to work (having already taken the NCLEX and passed), except for California and Florida. In those states you have to re-take the test. Thats why there are so many positions in travel nursing in those states. Im not sure about this though.

does anyone know if you can work in california with an associates in nursing after you take the national exam for your license??????

I am not sure I am understanding what you are saying here.....did you mean that you have to sit for another NCLEX to be licensed in CA and FL?

And how does that correlate with the number of travel nursing positions in those states?

You can work in CA with a ADN as long as you have a CA license. Also that is not true about having to retake NCLEX to obtain your FL or CA license. You can obtain a nursing license in any state by applying to their BON and paying the fee. My original license was from PA however I also have a FL and CA license.

Like I said, I wasnt sure. But thats what we were all told in nursing school. I was hoping it wasnt true.
