Is anyone willing to share what a typical day in the life of a case manager working for an insurance company looks like? I know it can vary greatly according to the company, but just looking for some ideas. I currently work for a large insurance company on the prior authorization side. I actually really enjoy my position, however, I have pretty significant tendinitis that makes this job a bit challenging, as it is very click heavy, lots of copy and paste, etc. I have thought about possibly switching to case management for this reason, but am not sure if it would make much of a difference. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I am a Case Manager and love it I am at a stage in my life where it truly is a blessing for me to earn a decent wage, work from home and not be on call 24/7...I have a life.

My days are "click heavy at times" I used to work UR. I have over 40 cases but the acuity on some of them I do not touch for several months. I get to help patients, I get to research other options. I am currently working with a rare disease association to get a patient medication they cannot afford and that we have denied because it is investigational. It is interesting to me the patient is not blaming insurance just the FDA for not changing this medication to allow for their rare disease. I still have UR cases stemming from my case management assignments and enjoy those too they usually are oncology. I also have time for special projects to help my company and they are sending me to Leadership school. As a whole I somewhat miss the daily grind but I can do this for the next 10 years and retire.

Lastly for your medical issue there is a lot of typing however it comes in spurts, there is a lot of telephone connections and of course point and click/pasting you must do. If you keep a cheat sheet you should be fine.
