Just curious, how many of you new grads have turned down job offers? Or just any relatively newer nurse in general?

Also, how long do job offers usually last before you have to make a final decision and let them know?

Edit: turned down for a reason other than because you had another job offer, etc.

I've never had this situation, but I'm guessing most people would say "why aren't you taking the job as a new grad!?"

Here's what I think, if there's an issue with the facility or the unit, I'd tell them. That way a ball is rolling in case they are unaware that whatever it is may be a problem and it'll be bettter (hopefully) if you ever re-apply there later on. If it's a personal reason, I don't know what to tell you.

When I was offered my PCT position in the hospital, I was told to let them know by Friday (and they had called on a Wednesday) because hospital orientation would be the following week or I'd have to wait a month until the next hospital orientation.

Most people would probably say that they had multiple offers and had to make a choice, the choice that seems will work out best for the new employee. This reasoning would also extend to choices made when not given multiple offers. You have to go with what you think will be best for you. While not a new nurse, in the recent past, I turned down a job over the insulting pay rate that was not disclosed until I asked at the end of a grueling hire encounter. I was forthright with them, but they did not seem to care.
