Western Carolina University ABSN. Questions and Concerns!
Hi guys!
I have read so many submissions on Allnurses that have helped me immensely and I thought it might be time to reach out to the community I admire so much.
I am applying to an accelerated BSN program here in Asheville, NC. I have been working on my pre-requisites while working full time at a home medical company. My application date is approaching and I take my TEAS exam a week from today (!!) I am finding that I am becoming anxious and worrying about the results of my TEAS, whether or not my application is good enough, and what I will do if I don't get into the program. Does anyone have any techniques for relaxing and handling anxiety?
Also, I am wondering if I am writing the correct things for my cover letter. Since it's an accelerated program, I want to find the right balance of personality but maintain a professional and mature voice in the letter. What sort of things do you include in a cover letter? I have a statement of purpose, how I found my interest in nursing, and how I came to understand the role of a hospital nurse (this was hinted at in the application). Any suggestions?
I was told a "Competitive" TEAS score is 87. Has anyone scored lower and gotten into a program? I am taking my practice test tomorrow so I should have a better idea of what I can score, but I've been practicing in the ATI book so I am a little familiar with the format. I think I am worried that my TEAS score isn't my strongest part to bring to the program. Although I know I can't have a perfect application, I still am concerned.
The breakdown of the program is:
Cumulative GPA (50%) - Mine is currently a 3.6
TEAS score (25%)
Resume/Cover Letter (10%)
Interview (15%)
Also, many people have told me that I need to "Stop analyzing" and "Relax" and "Not worry" but this is something I take very seriously, so it's not as easy as it sounds.
Ok, rant over. So glad this community exists. SO grateful for any responses!
