I am going to begin school for pre-nursing in the fall. I have been scouring the internet looking for other peoples experience with prior violations. I have two traffic convictions- driving 54 in a 40, and driving with no insurance. They were two tickets from one incident when i was 18 and running errands in my moms van and I lost my license. I did what was required and got my license back less than a year later. I am now 26, no points on my license and no other convictions of any type. I am in northern Indiana if that helps. Could me having these particular convictions in the past restrict me from acceptance into nursing school? I intend to be completely honest about the convictions for anyone that happens to suggest that. ☺ Just need to ease my fears, I have a lot riding on going to school as a stay at home mom of five and on one income. This is my chance to better our lives and I am trying to work out any unexpected issues that can arise. Thank you for any advice!

It shouldn't. Pay attention to the questions on the school application, see how they word this issue. Usually they won't hold traffic infractions against you if they are not serious, but if you are asked to disclose, do so.

The Board of Nursing/IPL isn't typically concerned with traffic infractions unless there are extenuating circumstances (i.e. injury or death), or criminal convictions. When you get to that point, just pay attention to how things are worded. If they ask for traffic infractions, answer honestly; other than that if you don't have a criminal record I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Ok thank you. I will probably get the certified copy of the convictions before I am done with prerequisites just in case so I am not rushing to get my application for the nursing program completed. Thank you!

You should be fine so long as you're honest. The program I'm applying for excludes traffic convictions, but your license violation will come up in a background check. Be sure that that isn't the first time your program discovers it.

Also, I probably wouldn't plan on ever driving an ambulance. I think you need a spotless driving record. (Warnings are erased after a certain time period)

I hate driving period! So that's not in my end goal. I will definitely be upfront about it. I tried checking our school website and looking over the actual pdf nursing application and so far couldn't find anything on traffic convictions
