Zyprexa Question

What are the adverse effects of diluting Zyprexa with NS? In other words why do you only give it with Sterile Water? I can't find the answers in my drug book or on webmd.

Featured Replies

I'm guessing that the powder is poorly soluble in NS, so it wouldn't reconstitute well.

Actually when I drew it up in NS it reconstituted well. I caught my error as I saw Sterile Water down at the bottom of the MAR. When I drew it up again in Sterile water it looked exactly the same...

Here's the information from the manufacturer.

It mentions reconstitution on page 33 or 34. It doesn't say why specifically in regards to sterile water but it says that mixing with something (can't remember) effects the pH so the med doesn't work like it should.

That was the other thing I was thinking, maybe pH or osmolarity. I'll try to remember to ask the pharmacist at work tonight.

Thanks guys for the answers...Virgo_RN, I forgot that we have a unit pharmacist during the days. I'll have to shoot her an email. But still post your findings here! I'm sure there are others who would like to know as well.

Thanks!
