Hi everyone!
I wanted to see if anyone got their BSN through a 2 year program verses a 3 yr program (not a second degree progam). I have applied to both, and if I get into both a 2 yr and a 3 yr, I would prefer the 2 yr to get it done faster, but I dont know if I should. Most schools are a 3 yr program and I think it might be because many people fail with the 2 yr. I dont want this to happen to me so anyone who has done a 2 yr gimmie some advice plz! Thanks!

As far as I know, most programs that are labeled as "second degree" are deliberately accelerated programs. If you're applying to a regular nursing program and happen to have another degree, it's a 2-year program, because you only have to take the nursing classes, and none of the normal state-required classes for a degree (such as so many hours of English, foreign language, government, etc). If you don't have a degree already, it's a three-year program because you have to take the state-required classes plus the nursing classes (all on top of the pre-reqs you took). Hope that helps!

That is untrue actually. There are generic BSN programs are 2 years. I do find it odd though that some programs, such as SFSU are 2.5 years without summers, and other schools such as CSULA are 3 years with summers. I don't know how they make that decision, funding maybe? Schools such as CSULB and Sac state have two year generic BSN programs that go through the summers.
I don't know which one would be best to take either though, it is probably different for each person though. I guess if you want to have summers off, and more time for yourself I would go for a 3 year program, but if you want to get it done, I think it would be fine to do it in 2 years, people just say its a condensed version of nursing school. I think if you have the choice though, do not pick a program that is 3 years with summers, it seems a bit ridiculous and stressful to go through that for 3 years straight, espeically if you do not have to.
Also, research the schools and nursing programs. I'd also go and visit the campuses (CSULB and SFSU are my favorite.. I like big campuses, and theirs are big and beautiful) to see which ones you like best. Also, take into consideration how long they have had their nursing program. For example, if you looked into/applied to CSU Channel Islands, they have only had one year of nursing students so far, not a graduating class yet, so I would assume its not very developed or together yet. (plus that campus used to be a mental community, and feels like one.. kinda creepy for my taste.. long, white narrow corridors, litterally. its also in the middle of nowhere, you have to drive like 3 miles out of town to get to it).
I think once you have gotten accepted to different schools (and i read your posts earlier, which is how i know your in california like me, but you sound like a great candidate for NS) I think you will be able to tell which one is right for you. Good luck!
But I'm also curious how other people feel about 2 year vs 3 year programs too.
I just realized how long this is so I'm gonna stop now.

Hello
I am looking into Everest University, they have an accelerated program for Nursing that is 2 years long. i am sure that they are not nationally acredted but they are credited in Florida. I lvie in Florida and am desperately trying to get into Nursing.I have so many odds against me like criminal history that is over 10 years old. I do have my rights reinstated but its still a pain to have this in your history wwhen applying to schools. I am getting really frustrated with the cost of these private schools. But I feel like this is my only alternative. I started my pre reqs with outh University but they do not guarantee the slot in the nursig program. I just feel like I am beating my head agains the wall . My question would be has anyone attended Everest. I am concerned how to get a 4 year degree in 2 years.:redbeathe
