If anybody lives in Stockton,CA and has any info on this school please share? If you have attended or know someone who has attended, what was the experience? Did you like the school or did you not like it?

pumpkin - did you find anything out about Xavier? I'm also considering going there in January 2010, and would really like to speak with someone who has been there/going there currently.

xavier college in stockton,ca!
wow, nursiepooh gave you a response and that's how you reply? hmmm
anyhoo..it's not that hard to look up the website:
http://www.xavier-college.com/program.html
as far as personal experiences go, it looks like you will have to wait on that.
if you have any major concerns, the obvious thing to do would be for you to call
the school or go in to speak to a counselor.

Just my bias, but I teach for Delta College. We also have an LVN program that costs a lot less than Xavier charges. Yes, our program goes a little longer, but you won't be so far in debt when you finish.
Just my
justme - Believe me, I'd rather go to Delta, but last fall when I tried to get admitted to the college for spring semester pre-req work, I couldn't get any classes.
When applying for admission, I discovered, much to my dismay, that registration priority/appts were based on educational, socio and economic disadvantage, and other factors. If my memory serves me, I got about 10 minus points for having a BS.
Plus points were given to applicants who had kids on aid, for ethnicity, for being a vet etc.
My appt for registration was scheduled for mid-Dec (general registration opened sometime late Nov). Every class I needed was closed, as were the waiting lists. Going through Delta would take years, and that is definetly not an option for me at this point in life.
So I decided to shell out the money and go to private school. Xavier is about $21k and Kaplan is about $6k more. Hopefully, I'll be able to get financial aid for part of Kaplan.
What do you know about either school?
i also tried to get into delta first the rn program then the lvn. so i decided to go private. Xavier was the cheapest and i knew some people who graduated from it and liked it.
Clinicals are good. we start out at a few nursing homes in the area like Good Sameritan rehab center, Wagner, Beverly Manor. we were at those places for about a month then we go to county hospital for the bulk of our clinicals. we go to med-surge, peds, ob at county, we also go to st. josephs and we go the respiratory, oncology and med-surge floors there.
I enjoyed the teachers, they are fun and very knowledgable. Many of them have extenive nursing backrounds and many areas. The Dean of the school was head of the nursing dept. at the veterans hospital in New york.
The only downside is that is is privatley owned, so it dose not have the money that schools like kaplain have and western career do so you dont get the nice dumbies they use for lab practicals but on the other hand you get great hands on experience.
i got my first job about 3 months after graduating from the program and skills wise i dont have a problem working. I feel i was well prepared.
