WRONG ways to study/prepare

Hi everyone,

I just failed the nclex-rn at 80 questions. I know some are thinking "well you bombed it and maybe you are stupid." Ultimately i graduated with honors from nursing school and I know that I am not. My advice to myself and to others is to go into the testing center the day of the test with confidence and little to no nervousness. I know that is hard because I was a nervous wreck during the test and my bladder told me so by frequent urges to urinate. I also only studied 3500? with some days doing from 50-200 per day, even reviewing the rationales on the discs (Saunders comprehensive and nclex 3500). My problem is that I should have reviewed more content in the saunders comprehensive/lippincott that I was using in addition to just reviewing the rationales behind the questions. I also worked way beyond what was right for me with my grad nurse job. So my advice to others is to study content first in a good nclex-rn book, then do the questions on the disc. I quit my job now and I plan on giving the nclex the same effort that got me through nursing school...intense repetition. Use those same skills that got you through nursing school to pass. That is what I should have done the first time. I will re-take it in September so pray for me and I hope that my advice helps someone. I wish others luck and blessing for the upcoming nclexs!

Thanks for the information about the hurst review. Can you record the lectures? What is on the DVD that they provide?

i really enjoyed the Hurst review. I did the 4 day live review which covers a variety of pertinent nursing content (not a review of nursing school) but a really good refreshed, straight and to the point. There is also a CD and a DVD they give you, a variety of practice questions, and a Mock NCLEX. If you know her information very well, and use her test takign strategies you should do great on boards. I beleive people who don't do well on the NCLEX who take the Hurst review did not study the study booklet well enough. I took it and passed at 75 ?'s

One way not to study for the NCLEX is to revisit everything you learned in nursing school.
