Earlier this year I was thankful enough to be offered several positions at once. Three were in acute psych, per diem and one was in Utilization Management (UM), full time. I went through the hiring process for all of them because I couldn't make up my mind. I made the mistake of taking the one in UM, because it was full time, reasonable hours and several of my former classmates worked there. I turned down the other 3, after completing the hiring process for 2 and starting orientation for 1.
I have come to realize that I made a mistake in taking this UM job. It involves virtually no patient contact, is completely overwhelming and often is not about doing what is best for your patients, but being pressured into doing whats best for the hospital and finances. So now I am stuck with this job that I absolutely hate. I have been looking for other positions but I don't have enough clinical experience to qualify for many of them. I did, however, see that one of the psych positions I was offered earlier this year has been posted again. Because I could not decide if I should take the position or not, I went through with the hiring process, but did not start the orientation.
Should I try to apply for this position again and email the hiring manager? Would the fact that I went through with the hiring process and did not take the position work against me?
I appreciate any input you could offer me as I am really in a bind on this one. Thanks!

All you can do is ask.... JMO, might not have been the best decision to go thru the hiring process up to orientation on so many of them.

I wouldn't give you a second chance. You cost them time and money, then backed out.
I wish you luck finding a job that you find meaningful and more patient centered.
