wrong answer at my last question

Published

I'm really anxious if I will pass the NCLEX. It stopped at 75 but one thing I am sure of is that I gave a wrong answer to the last question (#75). So does anyone know that when you made a mistake on the last question will automatically make you fail the exam?

That is a myth. I don't even remember my last question, I only remember it was a drug I have never heard of and I'm pretty sure I got it wrong. I passed in 75 questions.

If you are above the standard and you get the last question wrong it will either drop you a little bit and you will still be above standard or you drop below standard it would ask you another question to get you back up above passing standard.

There is no correlation whatsoever between how you answered the last question and whether you pass.

This is especially true since your test stopped at 75. 15 of the first 75 questions are 'test questions' in which the designers are determining the difficulty of the question for insertion in future tests.

It could have been one of THOSE questions - and they don't 'count' in your determination.

In addition, the computer tries to determine at what point you have a precisely 50-50 chance of getting a question right or wrong. As a result, the test could determine that by validating it's prediction that you will answer the next question right, or conversely, by validating that you will get it wrong.

In either case, there is no correlation to passing. Only the level of difficulty you are determined to be at counts. And since the test is trying to determine BOTH that level, and a level of confidence in its prediction, the question you got 'wrong' could be validating the confidence level as opposed to measuring difficulty. (that's a tad simplistic, but accurate enough)

Congrats on passing!!

I know my last answer was wrong, but I passed. Hang in there. I know the wait is awful. I took my exam on a Friday, stopped at 75 questions, and got my results on the following Tuesday.

From what I've read in the newly taken nclex .... you cannot predict on the basis of how many questions the computer accepts before being cut off and a lot of the folks, in fact, have been getting cut off in the seventies on questions then find out they've passed. Good luck to you!

Congratulations on your passing the NCLEX!

I just read sanuders and use cds of kaplan strategies and kaplan trainer. Very effective!
