Worried

Published

I worked at a nursing home for one year as an LPN. I quit my job because my husband and I moved to another state for his job and I finally graduated from Nursing School. I recently took boards and I am now an RN BSN. However, I also recently found out I am 10 1/2 weeks pregnant! I need a job but I'm worried people won't hire me if they find out I'm pregnant not to mention the fact that jobs are slim pickens now. Any suggestions? Should I tell them up front that I'm pregnant but offer to take a long term contract if they hire me?

It depends on what sort of floor you'll be working on. You can't be around portable x-rays without the lead apron, need to now how much lifting you'll be expected to do (I realize that nowdays, there are a lot of 'no lift' gizmos, but it still doesn't hurt to let them know that dragging a 400 pound butt onto a lift sling isn't something you'll be volunteering for). Being pregnant shouldn't eliminate your ability to work- and I remember co-workers being pregnant, and we all just helped out (and she did non-stress stuff in return).

Congratulations :)

Many Congrats!

If you think that someone won't hire you because you are pregnant, and really, employers are not supposed to not hire you because of that, you could think of doing some per diem until after the baby is born, then think about becoming full time/part time whatever suits your life after? Just a thought....
