Working as a tech after passing boards

Published

I have been working in the hospital as a tech for several months now. I also just passed my boards on Thursday but my start date for my nursing position isn't until October 1st because my hospital does not honor the "Graduate Nurse" status. Are there any legal ramifications with continuing to work as a tech even though I am a licensed RN (wow thats nice to say!)?

I'm curious to know this as well. I was in a similar situation as you when I graduated. I passed boards on July, but could not start my new job until August so I worked as a tech. People commented on whether or not I was allowed to do that, but the director of the unit I was a tech on said I was fine.

Generally, once you pass that board...you ARE a RN....so you probably shouldn't work as a tech....are you going to get penalized for it? Probably not.

As long as you stay within the scope of practice for the position you are working, you should be fine.

this is legally hazardous territory....in a court of law you would be held to your highest lic., ie RN....without having any orientation to that job....many hosp will not allow it......on the other hand you are no longer a Graduate Nurse, can you start you orientation sooner?
