Hey guys,I start school next week and was wondering if I need to cut back on my work schedule. I bartend four nights a week totalling about 28 hours a week. I am a 4.0 student but have many people telling me I need to cut back or I will never make it. What's you thoughts?
You'll never know for sure until you try. I wouldn't be able to do it, but if you have no children/spouse to take time with, and you don't have to cook or clean, and you are very motivated to keep your grades up and still work, who knows.
You definitely need to manage your time well, and let your employer know that if things get hairy you may have to cut your hours.
Also, if you don't get enough sleep you will have trouble remember what you study.
Good Luck!
I'm assuming that you have that 4.0 from college classes (you're probably over 21). Nursing classes aren't (ain't) like other classes. The first semester they are trying to "Weed you out". Your first semester is the most citical (IMHO).Hey guys,I start school next week and was wondering if I need to cut back on my work schedule. In Micro, A&P, etc, you may have only had to write 2 papers per semester.
Normal 1st. semester nursing classes are usually;
Fundamentals = at least 1 paper or critical thinking exercise A WEEK !
Pharm = drug cards, critical thinking, math problems, Labs with skills exams
Assessment = practice, practice, practice
Clinicals = drive an hour, stay confused for 6 hours, drive back home, write journals, papers, presentations (uniform washing, etc)
TEST STUDY TEST STUDY TEST STUDY TEST STUDY
However:
For free drinks, I already have all the papers you'll need.
You will be a very popular student.
Best of Luck in all your classes,
Bob
I work 3- 12 hour shifts a week including full time nursing school. It sucks, I know. If you do work often during your schooling, I might suggest working in a health related field...one that understands the value of working around student schedules...and this will allow you to gain valuable experience in the field you are going into. Good luck to you
