Working and Nursing school

Did any of you take out loans that were enough so you didn't have to work while you were in school?

My school hours are crazy and the job i currently hold will not allow me to take nursing courses (it's an internship for something completely different) so i will have to quit and find another job. Plus I can't find another job that will work around my schedule and pay me as well.

Do you have any suggestions on loans?

Do the local hospitals offer a nurse intern or extern program?

I do this and I can work 2,4,8 or 12 hours shifts on any day and any shift. Plus it's all around my school schedule.

I am going to have to cut down to 32 hours a wk b/c of my school schedule, but yes, I took out the max in loans too. The interest rate and term is better than a personal loan, and I got a grant to pay for tuition, books, fees, etc. I do wish though that there was a way to pay my bills w/o working while going to school. UGH!

Heck yeah I did. I can't imagine working, raising kids and going to nursing school. So I got approved for a private student loan. I can take out $30,000 a semester if I want. But I am only taking out $30,000 a year. It's actually more than I made a year when I was working. Good Luck!

NZL has a nice little system of crippling... ah... financing students. We get "student loans" which are organised through a government agency, they pay our fees, in some case living costs and $1,000 course related costs - which doesn't really cover it.

As much as I hate the current govt. they did just remove interest from student loans (it was a vote buying exercise for the last election), so instead of looking foward to having to pay back 10%pa on my student loan, I just have to pay back the thing.

Of course, you have to stay in NZL for 200 days or something after graduation to qualify for the interest free thing.

There's no way most people could get an education without the student loan scheme.

But I do still work, and I really dislike it at the moment. I'll probably quit in my last six months to focus soley on my studies, I'm sick of being asked "can't you wag?" when they're short staff at work.

I ain't putting a 13$ an hour job ahead of my education. :trout:
