Working in Northern Ca

"Close" to the beach in "northern" California could mean a lot of different things.

Is close 10 minutes or a hour+ drive? Also, since California is a huge state northern is a lot of area. Some call the Santa Cruz area part of northen California that would be about as far south as north goes.

Of course there is the Bay Area (San Francisco metro area), then you get into the north coast area such as Sonoma & Mendocino counties, etc.

Keep in mind the beaches in northern California are not like the ones down south...they are cold in the summer and really cold in the winter which is one reason why the north coast area isn't as populated as southern CA.

Maybe I should clarify.

I would be looking for a smaller ER than I'm working now{Metro Atlanta} Half hr drive to the beach ok.

I LOVE deserted ,windy,blustery beaches for long walks with my dog.The more deserted the better. Even though I live in Atlanta I prefer the beaches of the Northern East and West coasts.

I drove the PCH in 2005 and passed through lots of smaller towns.

Just wondered if anyone had worked some of the smaller hospitals.

Native californian here from Santa Cruz....If you like deserted beaches for dog walking you might want to work north of SF. That said not many beaches allow unleashed dogs. I lived and worked in Pacifica which is a little town just south of SF. The beach there was rarely occupied and I walked my dogs on it all the time. I was told a couple times that a leash was required but ignored that. Santa Cruz is a good place for beaches...although I'm not real impressed with the hospitals there. Especially Dominican....

I had realtives who used to live there and that is one dreary place. Why? Because of the weather. It's known to many as The Fog Capital of the World. Yes, the world. They even have an annual festival called the Fog Fest. In all the years I went to visit I don't think I saw the sun shine once and I'm not kidding. Seattle is a suny place compared to Pacifica (I used to live in Seattle, I know!)

If you like constant fog and high prices (it's still part of the San Francisco Bay Area) then go to Pacifica.

Yes Pacifica is very foggy and cold....I thought it was Bracing to live there...if ya don't like gray and cold then don't live in Pacifica or in SF. That said October is gorgeous and if you like bracing walks on foggy beautiful beaches and grassy hills then you will like Pacifica and it's surroundings. California is expensive period. That's why I don't live there any more...As for me Central and Northern California beat out sunny sprawling southern California for beauty, culture and character any day. It's all about what you need in your life and what your likes and dislikes are. If ya want warm sandy beaches and tropical weather then yeah...Pacifica ain't for you!
