I am currently working in the home health setting. Yesterday I had an I&D for a MRSA abscess, and started Septra. My concern is that my pt is a 12 month old with pulmonary artresia, and a failed unifocolization, with very degraded function of her one working lung. Should I be tested for colonization? How long do I stay off of work? What precautions other than hand hygiene are needed? Contact precautions? She can't tolerate any respiratory infections.

From a parental perspective, I would want you to stay away from my child if my child were that ill and you were ill as well.
From a working perspective...I suggest you call your DON...just my two cents worth.

Where is your lesion? Can it be kept covered? Ask your doc, and your agency.

These are questions we absolutely cannot answer. For the safety of your patient as patient advocate as well as your own health care concerns, you need to pose these questions to your healthcare provider. Only he/she can appropriately give you the medical advice you seek.
We wish you well and hope this resolves.
