Working at Methodist

Published

Hi Indy Nurses,

I'm interested in working at Methodist Hospital. How does it compare to some of the other IU Health hospitals and other area hospitals? What are the requirements for weekends, etc? Does IU Health offer tuition assistance for graduate school?

I have critical care experience.

Thanks!

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

They just got rid of their evening shift differentials! All ASN RN new hires must also sign a contract now to obtain a BSN within 5 years. Beyond that, I know nothing else.

Anyone else out there with helpful info? What about IU hospital?

I am currently employed by IU Health, just got my RN in May. I owe a work commitment as IU Health paid for my ASN, through the University of Indianapolis using my tuition reimbursement benefits. My recruiter told me Friday of last week that all positions are "under review for budgetary concerns"...meaning IU Health is having a hiring freeze, again. As a result I was relieved of my work contract (WOOHOO FOR FREE EDUCATION!) but am now looking at losing tenure, vestment in my 401K, and other benefits because if I want to work as an RN, it won't be for IU Health anytime soon...

Weekends are required by the units on a per unit basis. I have interviewed for several positions...some were every 7th weekend...others were every 3rd....

Tuition reimbursement benefits are available, but only with a 2 year working contract at completion of your program.

All of this information aside...there is nowhere else I would rather work. Despite changes in benefits (moving to HSA's and NO PPO options...cost going up...), hiring freezes, and a shift to no full sugared drinks (on the units for patients, in the cafeteria, no vending machine caffeine) I would stay here in a heartbeat if I could get an RN position...as IU Health is really the leader in the healthcare in Indiana.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know!

Congrats for getting out if the contract. I think IU expanded way too much recently as a whole. There are so many mergers going on right now in general that we will see more and more layoffs, especially in Indiana where it seems everyone merging together.

Any updates since some of the changes have taken effect?
