working in Er tonight...

Im so bored. This is my first night here, I'm normally on PCU. But census is low up there so I was floated down here to er! I mean don't get me wrong. I find er VERY fascinating but tonight on a Saturday night. I'm pretty bored. I was nervous as heck before I clocked in when I was told I was going to er. But now, I really wanna go back to my floor. Because I want to feel like I belong.

Right now I feel out of place. And not anyone to talk to. So I'm kind of going with the flow and just cleaning rooms, and transporting.

Want to belong? cause staring into your smartphone or sitting at a computer at work is totally helping.

Sadly, allnurses.com is an inappropriate use of time if ur assisting to provide direct patient. For future reference, start out by doing little things like "purposeful rounding". Getting an updated set of vitals is soooo beneficial and can often expediate a pt's discharge!

Live and learn. Life is about about getting outside of your comfort zone and trying new things! Float more!!!

You have no one to talk to because you're on the computer instead of doing work. I'm part of the Flex Unit at my hospital and I feel out of place every day because I'm on a different unit every day. Get off the interenet and get up in your patient's business. Find out what's going on with them, talk with the nurses about their care, ask what can be done. Don't just take orders- take initiative!
