is there work for CNA's?

are CNA and PCT positions just as competitive to obtain as LPN and RN? I am considering taking a course but I am fearful of paying the money and not finding a job. is it worth it? if so, what is the salary range? any advise?

by the way im interested in NYC or NJ

I can't answer about those specific areas, but in general, it is easier to find a CNA position. Turnover is very high, so even if a facility is not hiring when you inquire, it can't hurt to check weekly. It's never taken me more than 2 weeks to obtain employment as an aide.

There is alot of work for cnas especially in those two areas and in ny, it is more likely to get a job in a hospital as a cna(pct) then as an lpn. Just try nursing homes, rehab centers, hospitals or if you are lucky enough to have a car try an agency. The pay varies but the closer you are to the city the higher the pay is and I heard nj pays well also. Most cna programs have you do an internship at a nursing home, try to apply there once you pass your state exam, most cna programs are not that expensive, even though I got a scholarship(which you might be able to get at whatever school you decide to apply to) but the cost would have been less then $1500.00.

I am astonished that it only took you 2 weeks. Most places want experience. I also wonder if they are discriminating against me because I am in my 50s. Are you under 50 and experienced?

I guess I will try calling week instead of putting in applications.

I live out west but there are a lot of places that will hire new grad CNA's, you just have to call or go in person and ask. I am close to 50 and was hired right at my interview. I just recently got my state license and have no experience. They can't discriminate, so just get online and make a list of all facilities in your area and start making calls or stopping in to apply. You'll find something! Good luck! ;)

I actually got hired for my first CNA job before I'd even taken my test. I am nowhere near 50, but at the time, I had no experience.

This week I had three job offers. A new hospital just opened behind my house...and I took their job offer in Telemetry.

I work at a prison as a CNA...but its an hour and 20minutes away. Now, I can walk to work. Thank you lord!!

What city and state is this?
