Work during anesthesia school?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello everyone. I am relocating due to acceptance to anesthesia school. I was wondering how many accepted applicants attempt to obtain employment in the new state/city and how many actually continue to work throughout the program? I know in the interview process it wouldn't look great to mention that you will be starting CRNA school almost immediately post employment however; when moving to a new area and getting adjusted...it makes some sense.

I know there are a great deal of posts regarding loans and funding for anesthesia school but the tuition reimbursement through employers is also desirable. Any input/advice would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

SRNA is your new job, and it is full time with a lot of overtime. Be prepared for a much higher level of intensity than undergrad nursing, it doesn't compare.

Agree with above. I'm lucky enough to have a great wife who will support me and have GI bill benefits. Beware of tuition reimbursement because it usually comes with some type of time commitment to the hospital from the time the money was given. Lpans may be your best option and possibly work per diem. There are grad plus loans that allow you to borrow money for living expenses while in school.

I also agree. A few people in my program planned to work and due to living, breathing, eating and sleeping school it wasn't possible. My didactic portion includes class 20 hrs of lecture per week and with the rest of my time I am studying most hrs of the day/7 days a week! In Feb I'll begin clinical and we work a minimum of 40hrs/wk. I know personally finding time to eat, shower, and sleep feels like a chore. This is just my experience. Also my program requires students to submit a request that has to be approve if you are doing any kind of outside work/job. Good luck!
