With Children?

I am just starting school, and a part of why I wanted to do nursing was "you can go ANYWHERE". Travel nurse sounds like something I would like to look into. By the time I graduate, my son will be 4 and my daughter 13. Is it possible to do travel nursing with a child so young? Or would this put alot of stress on them? School, freinds, me working, ect.

One option that I have seen on many travel nurse websites is to take assignments in the city where you're from for the nine months of the school year and take an eight or twelve week assignment in another city during the summer. You'd get a housing stipend to live in your own place and your kids' school year would not be disrupted. They would also have the opportunity to see other parts of the country in the summers; which a lot of kids don't get to do. Good luck! I would love to do travel nursing, but my husband is a homebody. Just going during the summer may be something he would be open to as well. We shall see!

I travel with my just turned 5y/o. My husband and I decided that he would stay at home and be a home educator. So far it has worked out great! She is very advanced due to the one on one tutor. We frequent play grounds, swimming pools, beaches, where ever we go. If anything it has increased her social skills. She makes friends easily, everywhere we go. And she loves the travel! There is also an online private school, "lauralhills.com". You follow their curriculum which is a little more time structrured, but they graduate with a diploma. They do not take the GED like home schooled children. We have chosen home schooling for now. She is only 5 and we want more flexibility with our schedule. We may start the private school in a few years. Going to Australia for one year assignment first. Hope this helps.

I was wondering about traveling with a large family. My husband's health makes it hard for him to withstand cold temperatures. But I hate to be so far from extended family all year. I've been wondering about seasonal assignments (after I have some experience, of course).

We have a large family. We have homeschooled before, but I don't know if it would be best for us now. Just tossing some ideas around.

Love this thread...I have a 2, 4 and 6 yr old and am considering Traveling when we relocate so I can get a better feel for the local hospitals.....never considered a summer of traveling!

I'm on my first travel assignment. Only been there 2 days. I have a daycare/preschool for my 4 year old son. My boyfriend took a local job.Seems fine so far!!!

If I travel with my 10 year old daughter alone in the summer, then who will watch her while I work? If I bring my husband, he would have to quit a good job here at home. I live in Florida and we hate living here, and want to "check out" different places as prospective places to live...yet I don't see how they could come with me....
