what will I call myself?

OK...silly question of the year here! ;)

I am graduating soon and starting on a PostPartum floor a couple days after graduation. So...can I call myself an OB nurse, or is that for L&D and perinatal care? Will I call myself a PostPartum nurse? LOL I know its not the biggest deal in the world but I am just wondering....What I tell people now is "I am going to work in the Maternity Center at XXX hospital in the PostPartum unit." thats a mouthful lol

Easiest to say is a "Mother and Baby" nurse. That covers everything. Post-partum is not labor and delivery.

thanks! So Postpartum isn't considered an OB nurse? That was the gist of my (admittedly wordy!) question :)

You could also call yourself a labor recovery nurse if you don't work with the babies.

OB nurse is fine, as well. OB encompasses the entire childbearing process, not just L&D.

Good luck!

Whatever you choose.....you are a NURSE! Congratulations.

Yeah OB nurse is better because then if you ever switch over to L&D you don't have to coach your family into learning a new title ;)

I guess I don't make such a huge distinction. I just introduce myself as

"Debbie the nurse who will be caring for you until morning".

I mean, I do LDRP and GYN---as well as work in our Level 2 nursery. Being a NURSE is what I count, so introducing myself professionally to each family in my care----really, that is all that it takes.

thanks to everyone for replying! :)

Being a nurse is of course first and foremost and what I am working for but when friends etc ask "oh a nurse! What are you going to do?" I wanted to figure something out and I like OB Nurse. Just wanted to be sure I could say it! :) :)
