Will they hire me?

I don't know if this a dumb question, and I'm sorry if it is,but do they hire LPN's in hospitals? I am attempting to apply to an LPN program for the fall '07 semester, but am wondering what are my job options? Thank you.

My mother was an LPN and worked for years in ICU and CCUs. She retired at age 68 about 15 years ago. In most of the hospital jobs I held, we had LPNs working with us. The only hospitals that did not hire on LPNs anymore were a very large teaching hospital (they had some LPNs who had been working there for 30 years, however) and another medium sized teaching hospital. When I say teaching hospital I am meaning a hospital which is training physicians.

I suggest that you get a list of the hospitals in your area and call the human resources departments and just ask them if they have positions for LPNs. Ask if they have LPNs working there and if they hire on LPNs. Tell them you want to go to LPN school but want to work in a hospital and are just checking out the job possibilities and see what you learn. You can also check the job lines of some hospitals which are phone recordings of open job listings. Not all hospitals employ LPNs, but a good many do.

The hospital I worked at sure did. The LPN's far outnumbered the RN's. I hate to say it but I think they do that on purpose. LPN's cost less so they hire more of them. But they do need a couple RN'S of course. It was usually one RN on the floor with 4-5 LPN's. You have many options. Dr's offices also tend to hire LPN's more than RN's.

Do your research=ask the school, call MD offices, check with hospitals.

The answer to your question varies by location. For example Mtngrl

states they hire LPNs for MD offices in her area.

In our area, LPNs and RNs have been replaced by medical assistants.

An office will now consist of the MDs, NP's and medical assistant.

They can bill insurance for the Doc and the NPs and pay a small

wage to the MA. Its the new age of money comes first in healthcare

So really check it out and good luck!
