WI nurses, can you help?

My friend of many years moved to WI a couple of years ago. She doesn't have any insurance and makes only enough money to support herself.

In fact, in order to support herself, she has to work insane hours at a minimum wage job.

She hasn't seen a doc in over 2 years. She hasn't taken her thyroid medicine because she couldn't get a script. She's aType 1 Diabetic on top of everything else.

Do you know of any free/reduced price clinics in or around Milwaukee area -- Brookfield, Wauwatosa, or West Allis?

I'm really worried about her. She says she's gained over 30 pounds in the past few months.

I dont know about the Milwaukee area in general, but WI does have what is called Badger care. that is like a health insurance for the working poor. She should go to her county dept of health and human services to see if she qualifies...

Thanks, she says she doesn't qualify.

Hi, Angie! I am from the Brookfield/West Alllis/Wauwatosa area and found some places that your friend could check into.

The first one is the Community Nursing Clinic on the WCTC campus in Pewaukee, which is just west of Waukesha. It is "a full-service health center" staffed by nurse practitioners and at a reduced cost to the general public. Here's a link to their website: http://www.wctc.edu/web/student/clinic/nursing.htm

The next place I found is also in Waukesha. It says the services are based on income eligibility. When you click on the link, scroll down to the info for the city of Waukesha location. Here's the link: http://www.independencefirst.org/resources/HealthyLiving/FreeHealthCareClinics.asp#1432

The last place I could find is the Greater Milwaukee Free Clinic, which is located in West Allis. There is no actual website for this facility, but if you google it by its entire name, you should get the address & phone number for it.

If you have problems finding websites, addresses, or phone numbers for any of these places, let me know and I'll try to help.
