I guess it just really depends on what your interests are, what you want out of them, and what you want to support the most.
ANA is the big, broad nursing association for nurses in general. AWHONN is for women's health, OB, and neonatal nurses so it is much more specific in scope. AWHONN is great if your interest lies there, members get a scholarly journal (JOGNN) and Nursing for Women's Health ("This refereed clinical practice journal delivers healthcare trends and everyday issues in a concise, practical, and easy-to-read format.")
Link for current issue here.
I just noticed that they have a monthly pmt option for dues now here
I am usually a member of AWHONN, ILCA, and FLCA but sometimes they lapse b/c the first two are expensive!!
What Associations do you belong to/recommend???I was looking online and am unsure of the benefits/purpose of the associations.
I am a new grad and live in WA state. I was looking at the WA state association, ANA and AWHONN.
Any input???
Thx
I also live in Washington State. WSNA is about as useful as tits on a bull. I belong to the California State Nursing Association. They are the only nursing association that has done ANYTHING for the nursing profession.
Salaries are on the low side for the cost of living in Seattle, and that is being kind. Spokane salaries are very low, benefits are getting hammared, and the nursing profession is bullied BADLY by hospital administrations. And WSNA has done nothing. Leadership by them is non existent.
Cost of Medical benefits were doubled by Sacred Heart Medical Center (20% increase), and the nurses only got a 3% raise. Its gets worse from there.
I want very badly to bring in the NNOC, the group that belongs to the California State Nurses Association. There are other nurses who I have contacted from Washington, who also want to get rid of WSNA, and bring in the NNOC. PM me if you would like to join us.
