So I haven't been using this website as well has I should have but I feel it's time that I start. So I am an LVN graduate but that's as far as I go. I graduated in 2009 (yes that long ago) & took the NCLEX twice & failed both times. I just got so discouraged & went bck to school then applied to be a CNA & I've been working as an CNA since 2013. But I feel that my time as an CNA is over & I'm ready to try the NCLEX again. I knw I'll need a lot of refreshing to do since a lot has probably changed between 2009 & now. What are some tips & advice that you guys would suggest I do? Thanks

Sounds like you didn't take full advantage of your education and failed to pass boards and gave up. It'll be much harder 6-7 years s/p school. I suggest a refresher course at minimum and a healthy dose of extensive daily studying. Take 5 minute breaks every 30-45 minutes and place your focus on remediation & rationales, even to questions you answered correctly. Many questions can come in different variations that can be answered using common underlying rationales. Also, be prepared to explain to future employers why you passed school in 2009 but only got recently licensed.

You must check with your BON. It may not even be possible to take the NCLEX after 7 years. Rules vary from state to state. At a minimum, you will likely be required to take a refresher course.

I agree with the other posters about a refresher course and checking with your states BON. I would add a bit of encouragement to you. Some people do not test well, or have an area they just cannot get past. I had a friend, an LPN/LVN that went through RN school with me in the early 80's. The Regents test was required and had to be passed before you could graduate no matter what degree you studied for in school. She could not pass the reading part of the exam and after 3 attempts she just gave up. She was an ER nurse and I would trust her with my life but even with tutors and practice she could not pass. Hence they would not allow her to obtain the ADN in order to sit for the two days of testing. Please do not give up.
