Where Should I Start???????

Nurses General Nursing

Published

hello, i am currently a hs student enrolled in a program where i am learning pre-nursing stuff and soon i will be getting my stna. anywayz, i am really confused on how to go about starting my career in healthcare field...(nursing)...so here are my questions:

1. what is the best way to get into an rn school?

2. what can i do to be more competitive in getting into a nursing program?

3. should i become a crn or lpn/lvn first??? which one is better?

here is my goal: to have a masters degree in nursing....and hopefully continue my education into becoming a physician's assistant...

your feedback is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At first I want to say, it is great that you already have goals in life and know where you want to go in your career. Here are some of my answers:

1. Get good grades in all your prereqs (a&p, micro....)

2.(and again)Try to get as many A's as you can. It is all based on the GPA.

3. It is really up to you which way you want to go. You can go the LVN or the RN route, but you can also be a Nurse Practitioner with your masters (I don't know if you concidered that option)

ohhh..no i did not considered that (i'll look it up too)...but you see, i read online that it is best to have some experience before someone could be accepted into a nursing school....like being an lvn first before rn..... would i be wasting my time into being a lvn first? im really confused...

Not always. The program that I'm hoping to get into in the fall, the GPA is only a very small percentage of getting in. Its all on a point system. Just check out what the program is looking for.

A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who can operate his/her own clinic, provide care without supervision, act as a primary care provider, write prescriptions, etc. They earn as much, if not more, than physicians' assistants and have RN licenses.

Something you may wish to consider.
