I haven't been on in a while.... lots of stuff going on: husband deployed, returned and then moved me across the country.
Now we are in "sunny" north SF Bay area, and, um... loving? it.
Anywho, there were 12 hour shifts up the whazoo in MI, but I can't seem to find 12s anywhere. I just can't keep up my household and work 5 days a week. So, I was thinking about working part time. Not an option up here with the many companies I spoke with. What's up with that? All I want is 12s, so I can be home with my husband.
So, anyone know of anyone offering 12 hour shifts in the north bay area? (I'm in Petaluma, btw, but would definitely travel a little for the shift I need).
Blessings!

Hi, there!
I've moved your post to the California Nurses forum with the goal of receiving responses from people in your local area.
Unrelated: CA is my home state, and I was vacationing there for the past 10 days before flying back to TX yesterday evening. The weather had not been very "sunny" in my personal experience! Then again, we're in the middle of January...
Well, being from MI, all you see for like 4-6 months a year is gray sky and snow. When my husband told me Uncle Sam was moving us to CA, I envisioned sunny skies and relaxing on the beach. Has it been aweful! It's been cold, rainy, and definitely NOT sunny. *sigh* oh well... hopefully by maybe March or April.
Thanks for moving it... I didn't even think about the CA forum.

Every so often you see facilities cutting back on the 12 hour shift hiring to get out of the overtime for the last 4 hours of the 12 hour shift. And then it opens up again.
What type of specialty and what type of experience do you have?
Weather has been strange up here recently as well, not as much sun as usual. But at least no snow or ice.

Northern CA is a whole 'nother country than SoCal--on many levels, including the weather. San Francisco can get very cold (altho not MICHIGAN cold!) and damp. Some of those areas even see the "S" word: snow!
Have you looked in the city? I can't believe some hospital isn't doing 12's.
In any case, best wishes.

I myself hate 12 hour shifts, I was assuming most acute care hospitals were still 12 hour shifts..

Hi HisHands, welcome to California. I don't have much to offer you as far as facilities that have 12-hr. shifts, but I had to say hi to someone from Petaluma. I lived there for many years before moving to SoCal 2+ years ago. I'm guessing you're at Two Rock, right? Beautiful place, but very foggy.
I don't know if you're interested in hospice work or not, but there is an amazing hospice in Petaluma/Santa Rosa! Speaking of Santa Rosa, have you gone to S.R. Memorial? I don't know how far you're willing to drive, but there is also a good hospital in Greenbrae (Marin County), Marin General.
Best of luck to you, and again- welcome to California. I'm actually a bit homesick for where you live right now:(
edited to add- About the weather- I know it's rainy and miserable right now, but I think you're going to love the Summer and Fall. There's very little humidity, and it almost never rains. No matter how hot it gets during the day, you can count on cool temps in the evening. The dry season is by far longer than the wet season, so hang in there!

Call a travel agency because most of them do 12 hour shifts....you can always renew your contract with them once it's up....that's what some of my friends did.... Hope you enjoy the San Francisco Bay Area, Petaluma is gorgeous, wait until spring time!
