Where are nurses really needed in the USA?

Published

With 2 new graduate BSN's in my family next spring, we are now looking at opportunities to both "serve" where needed and gain experience as well. That being said, I am retired and willing to relocate with them in the US where nurses are needed. I am sure this will be in very poor regions of the country, and we are indeed prepared for such a location.

Can we get a list of areas that are genuine in their need for nurses? If you know of a region, city, town or hopefully even the name of the hospital that would welcome two new grads and that can make good use of their training and care giving enthusiasm, I would greatly appreciate your input.

I am retired and can move anywhere with them, so let us know where they can best serve the community.

Many thanks

Florida seems to have too many nurses. I work for a local hospital as well as an agency, and my hours are being cut at both jobs for low census and nurse overload at the agency.

A friend of mine just got an assignment in California but she said they put her on a two week haitus until she is needed, basically just paying for her to stay in a hotel and a lil bit of money to spend.

Beyond that I don't know, it is a sad state of affair in Florida right now in my opinion. There are jobs but they are not popping up real fast atm.

Texas, especially El Paso and New Mexico.

But as you said El Paso is poor for the most part but than on the other hand the cost of living is much lower here.

just take a look at el paso hospitals. Endless options.

Montgomery, Alabama is in a shortage.. 40+ RN openings.

I second that! Florida does NOT need any nurses. Really hard to find a job, my friend left here and when to OK. She found one really easily and said they were hiring alot.

This is good info, I was surprised about El Paso!! Yes, I understand there is an abundance of nurses in desirable locations like Florida and California, so we are interested only in those places that are suffering true nursing shortages. Please keep this information comming..it may help other new grads to "go where they ain't" ..
