When are you retiring as a CRNA?

Retired at 66 1/2. Not a big person and my hands and back were screaming every day and I was just getting really burnt out. No regrets. Never missed it. Lucky that I was able to leave when I was ready. Had production pressure nightmares for the first couple of years but they are rare now.

It honestly depends. I have known anesthesia providers who practiced into their 80's, and yes they were still capable....mostly. Money typically seems to be the hang up for most people and the market downturns in recent years kept a number of people practicing for awhile longer than they planned. Generally, most retire around 60-65; granted, I would like to be part time by 50. My goal in life is to do anesthesia solely when I want to, not out of necessity.

Good luck with that MHCRNA:) Even never owning the big car or house, life near the city was so expensive but we had to be there for hubby's work. Working in one's 80's? Not in my anesthesia world was that remotely possible. Hey, if you can't afford to retire by the time you are 80, perhaps you are doing something wrong:)

You mean between being a CRNA and a working spouse living near or in a city money was still an issue? How? I've seen city salaries around 200k for CRNA.

The people who worked in their 80s didn't want to retire and loved Anesthesia more than anything. For me personally, my wife is in healthcare and we are both younger and save and invest so we can relax later. I love Anesthesia, but working forever is not something I want to do.

When property taxes hover near $20,000 everything else is expensive. That included school taxes also. But schools were terrific. For all that money, no garbage collection, water or sewer.
