When should I follow up?

I am a new grad. I had an interview last Thursday for the NICU at a hospital that I really, really want to work in. It was set up by one of my professors from nursing school and she was able to give me good insight on what to say, etc.

I think it went really well! The ADN gave me her card and even wrote her e-mail on the back and said she would speak to me next week. There were 2 other applicants interviewing that day and we had to go to the nursing office to fill out a formal application, take a short pharm exam and give references.

The nurse recruiter was on vacation so the secretary took our paperwork and said the recruiter would be back Monday. I called yesterday to follow up but the secretary said the ADN didn't have a chance to speak to her yet and just took my name down. Now I'm wondering if I should call the ADN and follow up with her directly. I sent her a thank you e-mail on Thursday. If I call her, what should I say? I really want this job! Thanks in advance!

    I think you should wait at least until wed to call back since she said a week. It takes a while to do background check and references. If she just got back yesterday I would at least wait til thur to call her again.

    Thank you! I called them both this morning. I left a voice mail for the nurse manager and I spoke to the recruiter's secretary. The recruiter called me back and asked me to come in tomorrow! And as I was typing this out, the nurse manager called and told me I got the job! I am so excited!
