When can I start applying for jobs?

Ok so I know the job market is tough right now, and Im starting my last semester of my ASN program in 2 weeks. I will be graduating in the beginning of May. I was just wondering when can I start applying for jobs? I would like to start before I graduate to get my foot in the door, but I don't want to start too early either. Do you guys think it is too early to start now?

    I applied in October and I am starting to get callbacks now for my other jobs. Internally I applied in November and had a job by December

    I was thinking now and try and best the influx of May graduates. I dont live in a very large area, I was unsure if 6 months was too early. Id sure hate to fail my NCLEX and tell my future employer though...how embarrassing! (That wont happen though) ; )
