When would you call?

Published

I went on an interview yesterday afternoon at a hospital (Wed). I really think I might have got the job. The woman even walked me to the elevator and said Im going to try and find you something if not full time, part time..and you can always bid. They said they would be hiring people by early next week. They said if you dont hear from by Wednesday call me up. I mean I dont know even if they know they want you if they have to wait until next week to tell you? I was wondering if it would be okay to call them tomorrow (Friday)..because as soon as I got home yesterday someone called me to come in for an interview at another place next Tuesday. I mean I dont want to waste anyones time and dont know if I want to/should go. If I do call the hospital up tomorrow (or Monday..but kind of think Monday might to late to decide about the interview the next day)...if it would be appropriate to ask if they have chosen any candidates yet, because I was very interested and had someone else call me for an interview?

I would say Monday not Friday only cause you don't know how many others they are interviewing (thats just my opinion) also why not go to the other interview and see what they offer you. Why limit yourself to just that job interview. Keep your options open and see what the other place has to offer. You don't want to regret it later on wondering what if you know?

Maybe I will wait until Monday. Its just that well I went to school for medical assisting which the other interview would be for. Also, I would want to find out if I got the job asap so I could think about it. I mean I dont know how that works if they just call you up and you accept right away or is there usually a time period they tell you to let them know by?

If they don't call you tomorrow I would call them first thing Monday and see what they tell you then. You probably wouldn't start right away as you would have to go in and fill out new hire paperwork etc. I would still go to the interview Tuesday and see what its about and what they offer. You aren't obligated to take either job at all. You are leaving options open to see what one would be a better career move for you. Not sure how long of a time frame they would give you to think about it, but thats not being reasonable since you are weighing the options you know?

Sure I work at Iroquois Nursing Home... I have worked at Suny Upstate they pay awesome...I make 9.15 an hour pay is lower then most places around here BUT they pay fully for your LPN 6 months after you start there... They give you bonuses all the time. the health insurance is quite inexpensive for a family.. The benefits really are super duper. They also treat you like a family! Its a really decent place to be at :)

Oh thats good that you like it. Im in a tough situation now and Im not sure what to do. Kinda long story but Ill try to explain. I graduated in December from Trocaires medical assistant program and am certified. I havent landed a job yet so i ended up applying to Mercy hospital for a nursing assistant position. Do you have any idea what they pay? Anyways, I had m interview there Wed. and Im pretty confident that I may get the job. The thing is they said they will be hiring people by early next week. I wish I could know now or asap if I got it becasue I am supposed to go on this medical assistant interview Tuesday at a cardiolgy group. I mean they sound like they want someone who already knows how to do ekg's and has vital signs down, however I put in my coverletter that I know the basic of ekg's but was willing to learn (never doner one) but didnt mention that I still need more practic with vitals. I dont know if they actually looked at my coverletter but they did call me. I just dont want to waste anyones time. It is also bout 16mins. away but I would be getting a ride there so, it is further than the hospital about 5minutes from me. I also just saw on craiglist that this pediatric office (I did my externship at a pediatric office in the same building) is now looking for a medical assistant. However, I probably wont be able to fax or mail out/ hand in my resume to them until at least Monday Tuesday. This is around the same time Im supossed to be hearing back from the hospital. Im confused and dont know what to do. I wish this pediatric office would have put the ad up sooner. Now if I do get the job offer at the hospital..im not sure if they give you time to think about it? Im not sure when I would be able to interview for the pediatric office by. I would appreciate anyones advice

If she said she would call you in one week, then I would wait until at least Monday or Tuesday. It's good to be persistent, but they also have to be interviewing other candidates to make their decision.

For me, I just kept applying and interviewing at places even when I had a promising interview somewhere. Be sure to follow-up eventually (generally, I wait 1 week), but also keep searching. If they do offer you a position, most times they will need you to get a physical and do hiring paperwork. That can take a week to schedule, and if you are also entertaining other offers... then you can always call the original person offering you a position and say you have decided to pursue another opportunity.

And if they offer you another job the day of another interview, you can always cancel that interview and accept the offer... Or go to the interview, feel it out, and then make a decision.

Thanks. Yeah its just that the job offer from the hospital if I get it should be by early this upcoming week. My big issue is besides the cardiolgy interview Tuesday (not sure if I want to pursue that) is if I cant get into interview with that pediatric office soon enough and the hospital offers me the job? I think when I fax the resume to them Monday that some how say that if they are interested in interviewing me I need to know asap becasue I have very soon upcoming possible job offers/actual job offer if the hospital calls me first. What do you think about all of this?
