What do you want from orientation?

I know this may sound a bit slow but what I wish my hospital had offered the most was a class that went through the type of charting that we use and we could discuss charting. No one really went over this in school for me and all I have ever heard was "chart everything" which to me was not much help. Just my .

My unit just put out a new orientation manual. A lot of it is specific to where I work, but the things I wish I had from day one are:

- the lists of doctors (which teams to call when (i.e. colorectal surgery vs. vascular) maybe I was just slow to catch on, but having it laid out in front of me really helped.

-area-specific policies

-general information (common medications, hemodynamics) were helpful.

-lab results and what they mean.
