:argue:Today, I went to work and it was pretty busy. I punched in and another nurse was counting narcs with the dayturn nurse. I made census sheets, then the phone rang and our liason was calling a new admission. I took report and another new admit was rolling threw the door. At some point here, the dayturn nurse and the other nurse on my shift went into the back to start report, I didn't know this and really it wouldn't have mattered. So anyway, the other nurse on days is pregnant. Last time she was pregnant, she went on leave early and was on bedrest for the last two monthes. The STNA from days had left and the STNA for evenings is in school, so she comes later. So, ofcourse, I went to help transfer the new admit. I turned the new patient and the pregnant nurse held her while I checked her out, then I went to the other side of the bed and repeated the process so she didn't have to pull or lift. This took a bit longer than usual, but oh-well, right? So I go back into report and the woman had already given report on two people! I said, you started without me? She said, well, yeah, I have to go. It was 15 minutes before she could punch out anyway. WTH! You can't even come look for me? MAYBE even have helped TURN the patient so the other girl wouldn't have to do it? OMG, I was so freaking mad. THEN, while I was washing my hands she started on the third patient, MY PATIENT. I said, can you wait one minute so I can get situated? This one is mine. She rolled her eyes at me. What am I suppose to do? She is the manager's pet and comes and goes as she pleases. Doesn't work weekends. Never picks up and he loves her.

I would do exactly that, just cause she is his pet she should not get any special treatment from the staff. Hold her accountable by doing exactly what you did, tell her to wait while you get situated...what is she going to do go crying and say " Sally was busy washing her hands when I wanted to give report"...I would be mad too, I think we can all relate...

Deep breath and smile at her this will disarm her, she is wanting you to get upset and annoyed-honestly I believe some people just thrive on upsetting others
*sigh* I know you are both right. I just get so mad when people are more concerned with getting out than a patient's needs. It wasn't even as if she came to look for me and I was making coffee and socializing.
Ok, deep breath......
