What do you do??

I don't think you have to start repaying your loans until at least 6 months after graduating. Loan guarantors know that sometimes it takes a little longer than 4 years to graduate...assuming you started receiving loans in 2005. Anyway, as far as you being scared you won't get accepted...bear in there I think the saying is "there can't be a yes without a no" (or something like that) If I were you and I weren't accepted, I would probably switch my major to like health care management or something to that effect. Then after you graduate, apply to a few accelerated BSN programs in your area. I'm currently taking some pre req's to apply to one myself. They usually take about 14 months to complete. Luckily for me, the one I'm planning on applying to is fully paid for so I won't have to pay any money out of pocket, not only that I get a monthly stipend...it's only $500 but hey, every little bit helps. Since the program is so intensive, I probably won't be able to work while taking classes. It's cool though because I'd have a nice amount of money saved by then. But yeah, do some research to see if you can perhaps find an ABSN program in your area. I hope this helps...good luck!

Hi everyone I just wanted to get opinions on what to do about school? I have been doing pre req's for nursing school for the past two years. I have taken every pre req possible for all the schools in my area so I will be eligible for every program. I have nothing else to take but nursing courses.

I have applied to six schools for spring 08 semester, and I am afraid that if I do not get into any I will have to change my major. I cannot keep waiting to get into nursing school as I have loans which repayment is suppose to begin in 2009. I have a 3.0 gpa, and I see people get in the same schools I am applying to with lower gpa's than mine. I am frustrated, but am starting to wonder if god is telling me perhaps I am not suppose to become a nurse.

I am just wondering what would you all do in this situation? Thanks for listening.

wow 8 schools, your bound to hit something. I am only applying to one, it's the only one that is feasable for me. If I don't get in I will do my CNA in the spring and work my way through a different route. I would suggest if you don't get in to look at other avenues such as that. CNA or LPN then LPN-RN. You will start to work and earn money so you can pay your loans and it's likely you, could even find a school to pay for it for you.

I think you are worry too much about nothing. You have a great chance of getting in if you applied to that many schools! Even if you don't get in right away, it's not like you have to repay your loans...just because they estimated that you will graduate a certain year doesn't mean anything. You don't pay until you graduate or if you are out of school for 6 months.

If you don't get in, take the opportunity to take that next semester to re-take a couple of classes to increase your GPA and apply again the next round! Don't give up after getting rejected once!

Others have suggested getting your CNA, retaking classes to increase your GPA, possibly getting another degree and then going into an accelerated program, and these are all options you may want to consider. That is IF you do not get accepted by one of the 8 schools you applied to.

I know the school I am hoping to attend will sit down with you and tell you exactly what you need to do to improve your chances if you're not accepted. This is something to consider as well. At least then you can consider whether you want to do those things to improve your chances or if you want to pursue another route.

I am already a CNA and I have thought about the lpn program, even went to the advisement session. I was kinda gung ho about it until they said you cannot work as the program is five days a week, eight hours a day. I cannot afford to work. I know everyone says take out more school loans, but I don't want to be $50,000 in debt by the time I finish school.

I understand not wanting to be deep in debt. Unfortunately for me, loans are the only way I'm going to be able to get through it. I hope to minimize it of course!

We are all pretty much in the same situation here, most of have a child, or children and don't have a lot of time or money to waste. What in paticular we have in common, is that this will be my 3rd time applying. I am somewhat at the point you are, but do not have as many schools available to me to apply to. If I don't get in this time, I will probably switch my major although it will be in the healthcare field.

The only advice I can give you, is to evaluate what is holding you back. I bet at least one of those counselors at those schools will sit down with you and tell you what the problem is, try that. But I bet, out of eight schools, you will get in one of those;). Good Luck and keep us updated!!

Well I don't know about where you're from or where you're planning on going to school but here, in North Carolina, the LPN programs are offered at the community colleges. The community colleges here cost only 39.50 per credit hour which, in my opinion, isn't bad at all. Especially considering some of the schools here have tuition payment plans that will allow you to pay a certain amount towards your tution over the course of 4-5 months. You may want to look into the different financial aid programs available in your state, as well as at the school you're interested in going to.

I'm not sure where exactly you are but have you tried your local workforce commission? I live in Texas and our local workforce offers (to qualified applicants) help with tuition, uniforms, books, etc. It is also a full-time program but I'm sure you can find work with hours that will accommodate, especially sense you're a CNA.
