What is that supposed to mean?

Okay, so I've read alot on these boards where LPN's have been faced with others making comments about how LPN's aren't "real" nurses. I hadn't experienced this until last night at work (I've only been a nurse for 5 months). So, two CNA's were discussing how they are going back to school. One of them said to the other, "I put in an application for the LPN program and one for the nursing program." By saying "nursing program" she was referring to RN. So what, are LPN's not nurses? What do you think we do? While others may see us as the people who pass the pills (I work in LTC) I know that I am much more than that. And, I am proud to say that I am an LPN;)

Since when did I become a non nurse nurse??? You should have asked what kinda nurse program did she mean. We study the same courses as RN's and trust me I know since I made it through 1/2 the RN program. he only difference in the program was that the courses werent as long. But any RN that was an LPN first can tell you that its all the same...thats why they have bridge programs(well atleast where Im from) That skips the first 2 or 3 semesters of the RN program because they're so similiar to one another.

That NCLEX sure seemed "real" to me!

Yep we are real. In my nursing program, we used RN text books. And I'm proud to call myself a Nurse!:yeah:

I hate that comment also but it always comes from someone that isn't a nurse and all I can do is smile.

My instructors tell us we are more than "just" a nurse. YOU are more than "JUST a nurse."
