What to look for?

Im trying to find out what hospitals should I look for when I decide to move there from Chicago. I work at a hospital that's unionized, we get 12 paid holidays per year, 100% tuition reimbursement, low cost health insurance for you and your family Bluecross/Blueshield hmo. 5 weeks vacation per year and 12 paid sick days per year. Any similar hospitals there in the Phoenix area and surrounding suburbs. Just trying to gather my info before deciding to leave my 12 years in at this pension paying facility. All answers are very well appreciated.

Hello! and welcome. I am originally from Chicago. I am not sure about the details on benefits but I know the hospital recruiters out here are very helpful and you can find a lot of info on the hospital websites. Do you know what part of town your moving to? I would check Bannerhealth.com and then speak to a recruiter from there. St Joe's and Scottsdale healthcare are two other good hospitals to work at out here. I am not a nurse yet but if you have anymore questions I would be happy to answer them and if I don't know I will be more than happy to tell you that too :-D

Good Luck!

Steer clear from Banner. Search for the many posts on this board regarding staying out of thier employment.

Thank you for asking about this. I am planning on applying to the Banner program and after reading this negative post about Banner I have to admit I am a little hesitant.

I would still apply to the Banner program. There is less of a wait, and you'll get your RN in 16 months. Yes, you are obligated to work for Banner for 3 years, but they also told us that we could just buy them out and basically pay back the tuition owed, then there would be no contract obligation. Each Banner facility is different, and you'll find those that like one, but not the other. The BNFP is still a great opportunity. Personally, I love working for Banner, although my work is not clinical. You could just do what a lot of my other colleagues did: apply everywhere and accept who takes you first. Good luck!

I would like to work at Good Sam (hopefully in an ICU) when I graduate. Any insight would be helpful! :D

West Valley, Good luck with school. When will you finish? A friend of mine said Glendale is nice, is that true?

Thanks! Seems like I will never finish school LOL! It depends on which path I take. Lots of waiting lists out here and other things to consider. I like Glendale. I am glad I didn't head for Phoenix when I moved here. I feel the area I am in is decent. No where is perfect. But I am not far from good shopping and other entertainment. Send me a PM if you like with questions. Good Luck!

I'm in Glendale also and just like any city in the valley, there's good areas that have questionable pockets spread throughout. Most east valley people prefer the east valley and vice versa where ever you point the compass in the valley. Your best bet is to drive through areas that you like. The city is growing rapidly, so there are a lot of transition areas. But this should be true of any city in the US.

When you sign onto a hospital that offers so much money as a sign on, there is a reason for that. When people are willing to buy themselves out of contracts or tuition payment plans, there are also reasons for that too. Talk to those people.
