What books to keep

Hey all! I am 10 days from graduating with my BSN, and was wondering what books would you suggest I keep? I've spent a lot of money in this program and would like to get some money back...

I've been working as an RN/BSN for almost a year after graduating last May and kept all of my books. I work in OB, and the books I use as a reference the most are Med/Surg, Maternal/Child Nursing and Critical Care. Health Assessment is also a useful resource to have. Congrats on your degree!

I've already started selling some of my books cause I have ebook versions of some of them to refer to. I really don't plan to keep any of them. However, the thing is these books get updated regularly and while the basic core content does not change, a lot of other stuff does rendering your resale value worthless so you might as well keep it.

The med surg book by Lewis already has a new edition the juniors are using and l looked it up on amazon and people are bringing down the price to ridiculous levels, like $20's so its not even worth selling compared to the $120 I paid for it less than a year ago. Thank you booksellers! If I can't sell I might rather just give mine away. Only one I might keep is Medsurg and Critical Care.

If you plan on furthering your degree in the next year to three years, all your books will become valuable assets. They will aid in research and assist in care plan development. Additionally, in your work you will occasionally come across something you forgot or need a refresher in, or family/friends will ask you something outside the realm of your nursing specialty... I find it's great to have all that evidenced based info at hand :)

what you will need is found on the Intranet. I would sell them

There will be so many other resources available- each nursing unit should have books relevant to its specialty, the internet has some good stuff out there, health care facility libraries. I did keep a few of my books from nursing school because they already had several new editions, rendering the sale not worth the cost of shipping. I haven't touched any of them since graduation 10ish years ago. Sell what you can while it's worthwhile.

Sell 'em if you can. You'll probably find more benefit from specialty-topic books that don't weigh 25 lbs.
